Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our team at Covenant House Texas. The ideal candidate will have a passion for preparing delicious meals and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. You will be responsible for cooking a variety of dishes according to our recipes and standards, ensuring quality and consistency in every plate served.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes and production sheets.
  • Set up, maintain and break down assigned stations.
  • Ensure proper portioning, presentation and temperature control.
  • Assist with receiving, labeling and storing food products.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas throughout the shift.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Communicate product shortages, equipment issues, or resident concerns to the Chef/Manager.
  • Support batch cooking and timely service throughout their shift.
  • Assist with training new team members as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Stewards to maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Serve the youth with a spirit of warm hospitality.

Qualifications: 
  • 2+ years of cooking experience in a high-volume or institutional setting.
  • Ability to follow recipes, production plans and safety standards.
  • Strong knife skills and understanding of basic cooking techniques.
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain quality under time constraints.
  • Food Handler Certification.

About Covenant House Texas
Covenant House Texas (CHT) opened its doors in 1983 to provide shelter for homeless, abused and abandoned youth ages 18 – 24. After more than 35 years of service, CHT offers an extensive continuum of care model for homeless youth including mental health and substance abuse counseling, educational and vocational training, transitional and permanent living programs, street outreach and prevention, pastoral ministry and parenting classes in addition to providing the basic necessities of food, clothing, medical care and safe shelter from the streets for youth in crisis.
